First United Methodist Church Reconstruction

This project had many challenges that are typically associated with reconstruction of an existing structure. One of the most difficult and useful challenges is to find information on the existing structure, whether it be through drawings of the original structure or field verifications. We had to explore and verify the existing footings, disassemble certain areas to allow access to the remaining structure and reconstruct the roof through examination of photos and the existing masonry walls.

Most of the reconstruction of the structure was designed from knowledge of construction practices at the time and field measurements of what was still intact. The use of historical photos taken prior to and after the fire were imperative to the redesign of the roof structure. Site excavation and inspections allowed for the design to be finalized and adjusted as needed during the reconstruction project.
